Arum: Zhilei is the top contender to fight Fury in July

Chinese man could get big fight after defeating Joyce

Head of Top Rank Bob Arum said that interim WBO heavyweight champion Zhang Zhilei is the main candidate for a fight with the WBC champion Tyson Fury this summer.

“It’s not quite right to say that Andy Ruiz is no longer a candidate to fight Fury. But right now we’re focusing on the Chinese guy who beat Joe Joyce. Yes, Zhilei is the main contender for the fight with Fury today. Most likely, the fight is planned for July. We will try to close the talks this weekend.”

Previously, there was information that Fury began negotiations with Zhilei about holding the fight.

In his last fight, Zhilei defeated Joe Joyce by technical knockout and took away the WBO interim title from him. The victory in the duel allowed the 39-year-old Zhilei to qualify for a fight with the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury has announced a return to the ring and his new fight in the near future. According to promoter Bob Arum, Fury’s next opponent could be ex-champ Andy Ruiz.

We also recall that Skill Challenge Entertainment plans to hold a face-to-face fight between Fury and Usyk in the Middle East, as well as a fight between two former world champions – Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. The total amount of fees is 210 million pounds.
