Ukrainian boxer finds positive in 2020 defeat
Former champion in three divisions Vasily Lomachenko told how he was affected by the defeat in the battle against Teofimo Lopez.
“What happened in my life? I lost three belts, I lost the fight with Lopez. But I won something much more than these three belts. For me it was very good. Now I understand it. Now I have started a new life as a different person.”
“Before that, I was a man who wanted to conquer the world. Inside me, my ego was very big. Many did not notice this, but after this defeat, I saw myself and from that moment began to change. Everything has its time. Maybe it wasn’t my time.”
Recall that in October 2020, Lomachenko lost to Lopez by unanimous decision in the battle for the title of absolute world champion in lightweight. After that, Lopez moved up to light welterweight and has no plans to return to the previous category.
Lomachenko will face undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney next. The fight will take place on May 20 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden and will be broadcast via PPV on ESPN+.
