The American boxer’s coach believes that his compatriot has little chance of fighting the Ukrainian.
Devin Haney will lose to Vasily Lomachenko in a fight for the title of the absolute champion of the lightweight division. This is the opinion of the coach and father of the Ukrainian esque-rival – Teofimo Lopez.
According to the specialist, the only chance for the American boxer to win is to use his height and keep Lomachenko at a distance for the entire fight. The judges may give Haney the preference on points.
“Let’s rate Loma, who fought us, 10 points. If he performs 6.5-7 points against Haney, he will beat this kid. Why? Because to beat Lomachenko you have to be perfect versatile. In other words you can ‘don’t do the same thing all the time because Lomachenko will take advantage of it and get you.
I think Lomachenko really wants to rehabilitate himself in boxing and get all these belts back. This is what he always wanted. So I’m waiting for him to come back, maybe, at seven. Not ten, like when we fought him. But you don’t know. Styles make feuds.
A very tough fight for Haney. The only option I give him is if he keeps his distance all night and uses the jab like he always does and wins on points. But it’s going to be very difficult,” Lopez Sr. said in an interview on MillCity Boxing’s YouTube channel.
It will be remembered that the fight Devin Haney – Vasily Lomachenko should take place on May 20 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Previously, Teofimo Lopez Sr. called his unfair favorite in the rivalry between Haney and Lomachenko.
