russian boxer Tarkhan Idigov said that the fight in the 1/8 finals of the World Championship in Tashkent was fundamental for him, it was important for him to defeat this opponent.
On Tuesday in Tashkent, Idigov defeated Nabi Iskandarov of Azerbaijan by a split decision of the judges and reached the quarterfinals of the World Championship in the weight category up to 67 kg.
– For me, meeting this opponent was fundamental. I had been waiting for this fight since the tournament in Morocco, where I lost against the same opponent in the final. It was a very disappointing loss for me, but I drew conclusions. And I’m happy that I was able to win today. I felt the fight was happening under my dictation, Viktor Borisovich (Farkhutdinov) in the corner said I was winning after the first round. In the second segment they told me to tune up better – in the third round I have to attack. This is just the beginning of my journey to the World Championships, serious rivals are ahead of us and we are hoping for gold,” the correspondent quoted Idigov as saying.
On May 10, in the quarter-finals, Idigov will meet 2021 World Championship bronze medalist and 2022 European runner-up Georgian Lasha Guruli, seeded under number one.
