French boxer Michel Soro lodged a protest with the Russian Boxing Federation against the result of the fight with the Russian Magomed Kurbanov . This was reported by BoxingScene.
The fight for the right to challenge for the WBA light middleweight title took place in Yekaterinburg on May 6 and ended with Kurbanov winning by split decision.
The French team’s lawyer, David Berlin, backed up the complaint with the fact that many specialist media called Kurbanov’s victory a “robbery of Soro”.
– This fight was in favor of Soro, he became his winner. According to our information, the majority of observers evaluated the result at 9-3 in rounds in favor of Michel. Apart from the judges, no one saw that Kurbanov won more than four rounds, the statement said.
For Kurbanov, 27, the win was the 25th straight (13 KOs) in his professional career as he became a contender for the WBA title. Soro, 35, suffered the fourth defeat of his career with 35 wins.
