Tournament of top heavyweight boxers may be held in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2023
Legendary American ring announcer Michael Buffer commented on a possible top heavyweight boxing tournament at the end of 2023 in Saudi Arabia.
“I heard about it from our friend Derek Chisora. I learned a lot and this tournament is at the stage of rumors. It sounds incredible. It will be a huge boxing event. If this tournament takes place, then I will be very happy, because this is what we all want.”
“We want one undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. All boxing is under the auspices of the heavyweight champion. And we want it to be one person, no matter who it is. Everyone in the world wants to know who is the heavyweight champion of the world. So let’s see how this situation develops. Maybe eventually we will have the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”
Skill Challenge Entertainment plans to host a face-to-face fight between WBC champion Tyson Fury and WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk in the Middle East, as well as a fight between two former world champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. The total amount of fees is 210 million pounds.
Fury has announced a return to the ring and a new fight in the near future. Fury’s next opponent could be ex-champion Andy Ruiz or interim WBO champion Zhang Zhilei of China.
The WBA has ordered Usyk to defend his title against Daniel Dubois. Usyk said that he plans to fight the Briton at the end of the summer. Three potential venues are being considered for the fight with Dubois: Great Britain remains the main option, and the fight could also be organized in Poland and the Middle East.
