Todd DuBeouf thinks it will be hard for Devin to stay at lightweight
Todd DuBoeuf, president of the Top Rank promotion company, believes that the undisputed world champion in lightweight Devin Haney will have to fight the former featherweight and super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson in case of success in a battle with a Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko.
“Loma says he is 100 percent ready and in his best form. So if Haney can beat Lomachenko at his best, I think it will be a very big win for Devin.”
“Haney is so big, can he stay at 135 pounds? Or will he go up to 140 pounds? There are opportunities here. I think from a purely boxing point of view, it would be natural to see Devin and Shakur fight.”
“It would be like Mayweather and Mosley in their prime, which we didn’t have. They know each other well. They like to have fights like this, but we’ll see what happens and how both fighters feel and how Lomachenko feels. We have to work with the boxers and not force something they don’t really want.”
Haney will fight next with former three-weight world champion Vassily Lomachenko. The fight will take place on May 20 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden.
There are no plans to broadcast the fight in Ukraine yet. The MEGOGO service, which previously broadcast Lomachenko’s fights, and also acts as the official broadcaster of Oleksandr Usyk’s fights, refused to show the Lomachenko-Haney fight.
The referee in the ring will be Harvey Doc from New Jersey. Side judges are Dave Moretti and Tim Cheetham (both from Nevada), as well as David Sutherland (Oklahoma).
