Egis Klimas, manager of the Ukrainian boxer Vasily Lomachenko sent letters to the WBO, IBF, WBC and WBA, notifying the organizations of their intention to appeal his neighborhood’s fight with American Devin Haney.
On Saturday, Haney defeated Lomachenko via unanimous decision (115:113, 115:113, 116:112) in Las Vegas and defended the undisputed lightweight world title. Part of the boxing community said after the fight that the judges should have given the victory to the Ukrainian.
– The result of the fight deprived Vasily of victory and the dream of becoming the absolute world champion. Our team is preparing an appeal against the judges’ decision, therefore, I request that Lomachenko be retained as a mandatory lightweight title contender and ranked number one,” he wrote in an open letter posted on Twitter.
Haney, 24, has 30 professional ring victories. Lomachenko, 35, suffered the third defeat of his career. Because of the double Olympic champion 17 victories.
