Jai holds IBF cruiserweight title
WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) in talks with IBF cruiserweight champion Jaem Opetai (22-0, 17 KOs). Australian manager Mick Francis said that the parties are discussing the fight in the summer in Australia.
Fury was previously reported to be in talks with Damsey McKean (22-0, 14 KOs). “Gypsy King” said that the Australian could be a good opponent to prepare for the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
On April 29, Fury was supposed to have a unification fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk. However, the parties did not reach an agreement and suspended the negotiations. According to manager Egis Klimas, the Gypsy King team demanded too much, no matter how much Usyk compromised.
We also recall that Skill Challenge Entertainment plans to hold a face-to-face fight between Fury and Usyk in the Middle East, as well as a fight between two former world champions – Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. The total amount of possible fees for boxers is 210 million pounds.
Opetaya won the IBF title in his last fight with the Latvian boxer Mairis Briedis. The Australian later underwent surgery on his jaw, which he broke in a duel with the Latvian.
