WBC, IBF, WBO light heavyweight world champion Arthur Beterbiev announced that the title fight with Briton Callum Smith will take place on August 19.
According to the World Boxing Council (WBC) website, the fight will take place at the Videotron Center in Quebec. The Russian has dual nationality and participates in international competitions under the Canadian flag.
Smith became the mandatory challenger for the light heavyweight title by decision of the WBC, which earlier in May refused to sanction Beterbiev’s fight against Russia’s Dmitry Bivol.
– I am happy to inform you that on August 19 you will see me again in the ring. My opponent was Callum Smith, the mandatory contender for the WBC title. But my three belts will be on the line in this fight.
There are several months of preparation ahead of us, and I hope everything will go as it should. It will be a glorious fight. See you on August 19,” Beterbiev wrote on his Telegram channel.
Beterbiev, 38, has 19 first wins in 19 fights in the professional ring. In his last fight, the Russian knocked out WBO mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde in September.
Former WBA super middleweight champion Smith has 29 wins with just one loss to Saul Alvarez in December 2020.
