Derevyanchenko: Victory over Mungiya will open the door to a big fight

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez could be one of the possible opponents.

Ukrainian middleweight Sergey Derevyanchenko (14-4, 10 KOs) commented on the upcoming match against Jaime Mungii (41-0, 33 KOs). The Ukrainian also said that he was ready for a big fight, where the undisputed world champion in the second middleweight could become his opponent. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

“About the next fight, it should be a big fight. It could be Canelo, it could be anyone. Defeating Mungia will open the door to a big fight.”

“Yes, Canelo says he wants to fight Bivol next. But things are changing fast. Now they are talking about Bivol, and then they will not be able to agree, and the fight is already planned. And they will look for an opponent … “

“But right now I’m focused on the Munguya fight. You need to win it, and then managers and promoters will work. It will be their job to reach an agreement.”

Derevyanchenko and Munguia will meet in the ring on June 10th. The fight is scheduled in California (USA) and will take place at the Toyota Arena. The entire evening of boxing will be broadcast by the DAZN streaming service.

In the fall of 2021, the Ukrainian was planning a fight with Munguia and had to hold an auction. But the Mexican team refused to fight.

In the last fight in the summer of 2022, Derevyanchenko won on points against American Joshua Conley. By defeating Conley, Sergey broke a series of three defeats in a row. Before that, the Ukrainian lost to Gennady Golovkin, Jermall Charlo and Carlos Adames.

Munguia last November won a knockout victory over Gonzalo Gaston Coria. The Mexican also beat Jimmy Kelly and Dimitrius Ballard last year.
