The session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) must decide on the inclusion of boxing, weightlifting and modern pentathlon in the program of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in October 2023, said the sporting director of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Keith McConnell.
Earlier, the IOC named 28 sports that will be included in the Olympic program for the Los Angeles Games. Boxing, weightlifting and modern pentathlon are not included.
– Final decisions on the three sports whose status is in question, as well as those to be proposed by the Olympic Organizing Committee, are expected to be taken at the IOC session in October. As for the disciplines and the quotas, they will be approved at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025,” McConnell said during a meeting of the general assembly of the Association of Summer Olympic International Sports Federations (ASOIF).
According to him, the Olympic program for the 2028 Games will also be discussed at an IOC Executive Board meeting in June.
The next IOC session will be held from October 15 to 17 in Mumbai (India).
