Russian boxer Artur Subkhankulov has said he is not ready to fight undisputed world lightweight champion American Devin Haney.
On Thursday in Moscow, Subkhankulov beat Kazakhstan representative Ablaykhan Khusainov by unanimous decision, inflicting the first loss of his career on his opponent. Subkhankulov, multiple winner of the Russian championships, has six victories in the professional ring.
– I needed such a fight at this stage of my professional career. I liked the fact that I went a long distance of ten rounds. Indeed, in such fights it is necessary to build different tactics, to calculate forces, than in Olympic boxing.
I’m already 31, and it’s a serious age. You need to quickly win fights with serious opponents. I won’t hesitate, I have to go to rating battles.
Haney is the undisputed lightweight champion.
“Maybe, in the future, but I understand that I am not ready for this fight,” reports correspondent Subkhankulov’s words.
