Promoter looking for opponent to prepare for fight with Deontay Wilder
Promoter Eddie Hearn said that he was unable to negotiate with the former “interim” WBC champion Dillian Whyte about the fight against Anthony Joshua.
“We spoke with White and his team. We made an offer, but Dillian’s representatives didn’t accept it. Maybe we asked for too much money.”
“We are considering two other opponents for the fight on August 12th. Joshua wanted to fight White, but that was not something that needed to be done.”
“If we want to fight Deontay Wilder, we need a fight in the summer. It is necessary to prepare well for Deontay. However, if the Wilder fight doesn’t happen, we need a much bigger fight on August 12th. Or we can fight Tyson Fury in September.”
Joshua faced White in 2015 for the WBC International belt and British titles, winning by TKO in the seventh round. The boxers were ready for a rematch. Hearn said that the fight with White will be a good preparation for the fight with Wilder.
Recall that Skill Challenge Entertainment plans to host a fight in the Middle East between two ex-world champions Joshua and Wilder, as well as a fight between WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury. Wilder is interested in the December night of boxing, whether or not Fury takes part in it.
