The fight with the Mexican Carlos Ocampo does not allow to talk about the future prospects of the Australian boxer Tim Tszyu in the fight for the title of absolute world champion. This opinion was shared with by the former IBF and IBO light welterweight champion Edward Troyanovsky .
On Sunday, Tszyu defeated Ocampo and defended his interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior middleweight title. The fight, which took place in Australia, ended with Tszyu winning by knockout in the first round. The 28-year-old Australian defended his interim WBO title for the first time, which he won in March after beating American Tony Harrison. Tim Tszyu is the mandatory contender for the bout with undisputed US light middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.
– Tim Tszyu won without any difficulty, the opponent did not put up adequate resistance. And Tim Tszyu has a good hard shot. But let’s be objective – to talk about “the absolute” … This is a weak resistance. To do this, he must defeat opponents who are high in the rankings (Ocampo was ranked 11th in the WBO rankings – editor’s note.) And then you can already give an objective assessment. Yes, Tim Tszyu is good, he has a good shot, a promising future. But he needs fights where there will be competition. And the fact that he fights almost exclusively in Australia will not prevent him from becoming champion. Maybe the title fight will take place in Australia. This is an indicator of the work of his promoters and managers,” Troyanovsky told .
In total, the son of former absolute champion Konstantin Tszyu has 23 victories (17 by KO) in the professional ring. Only once has Tim Tszyu boxed outside of Australia.
