Representative of the Leningrad team Ilya Popov shared his impressions of his victory by unanimous decision of the judges in the ” Victory Cup” over the boxer of the team “Siberia” Alexander Khokhlov.
The best Russian athletes take part in the Victory Cup, they compete according to the rules of professional boxing. The format of the fight is four rounds of three minutes each.
– I am not surprised with the result, because I was preparing for this fight, I gave myself in the ring. I take it for granted, because before that I gave it my all in the gym. The fight was good and competitive. Sanya and I have met before, we are friends in the national team. Glad to have won.
At first I thought there would be nothing unusual, but already during the warm-up I felt this atmosphere. Let’s call it semi-professional when you’re shirtless and wearing different gloves, four rounds. And immediately the difference in the context of Olympic boxing was felt. I haven’t made my professional debut yet, so the last fight was an innovation for me, the first step in my professional career,” Popov told reporters.
Ilya Popov is a member of the Russian national boxing team, winner of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, participant in the 2019 adult world championship.
