Greece’s George Yerolimpos has resigned as secretary general and chief executive of the International Boxing Association (IBA), according to a statement. IBA website .
Britain’s Chris Roberts has been appointed as the organisation’s interim general secretary and chief executive. Previously at IBA, he was director of development.
“The IBA is going through a period of transformation and it is a great responsibility and an honor for me to commit to investing my time, my experience, my passion and innovation in the boxing family,” said Roberts.
Earlier, the IOC extended the suspension of the IBA. The boxing tournament at the 2024 Games in Paris, as well as at the Tokyo Olympics, will be organized by the IOC itself. At the same time, boxing is currently not on the program for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It has been reported that the IOC Executive Board will on Wednesday consider the IBA’s report on meeting the criteria needed to restore the association to its rights.
The president of the IBA is the Russian Umar Kremlev.
