ONE Championship light heavyweight king Russian MMA fighter Anatoly Malykhin (12-0) completes the final leg of training in Thailand ahead of the heavyweight belt unification bout in Bangkok on June 23. He turned to British boxer Tyson Fury, who is also in Thailand.
He said he would like to train with Fury in boxing while he is in the country:
– I would really like to train with Tyson. Maybe four points to make him run, teach him to fight a bit.
In the case of a fight with Fury, the Russian is sure he would have done without injury:
– Sparring is a helmet, big gloves and good protection. And in general, touching a legend like Tyson would fill me with strength before the fight with Arjan. I don’t think we would be working at full capacity, so there would be no danger for me. Although he weighs 130 kilograms there, he would have to move seriously not to hit, ONE quotes Malykhin.
Rumors have been swirling for weeks about possible fights between Fury and UFC champion Jon Johnson and former champion Francis Ngannou, who recently signed with the PFL. Under the agreement, Ngannou can compete outside of the promotion under boxing rules. He himself said that he would like to try his hand at boxing first and then return to MMA. Jones asked the UFC president to make an exception for the fight with Fury and give him the opportunity to fight outside of the promotion. But no such agreement has been reached. Meanwhile, Dana White has said he’s ready to fight Jon Jones and Tyson Fury if the boxer wants to compete under MMA rules.
Although Fury said he was not interested in MMA fights, he began training with Darren Till and Nate Diaz, and visited the Bangtao MMA gym in Phuket, where Malykhin, Freimanov, Fiziev and de many other fighters from top promotions surrender.
Malykhin is sure he could show Tyson some great takedown defense:
“My wrestling would definitely help. If Tyson Fury wants to try MMA, he needs withdrawal protection. As we know, not a single fighter has been able to transfer me to the ground yet – I understand something about that. I think I was able to help him in that, just like he helped me in boxing. You can make as much noise as you want, but the fact that he is the number one boxer in the world is an absolute fact! He’s a real athlete, a real fighter, a tough guy.
