Double Olympic boxing champion Alexei Tishchenko told that for a long time he saw no hope of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) changing its decision on the recommendation to withdraw recognition from the IBA.
Earlier, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected a request by the International Boxing Association (IBA) to suspend the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) recommendation to withdraw IBA recognition.
“I see no hope that the IOC will change its mind for a long time. Since it all started, it was clear that the situation was not likely to improve for us. This is the time when sport and politics, unfortunately , are very closely connected. It’s a pity that the athletes here suffer the most, and today I don’t see a way out of the situation,” Tishchenko told .
In June, the IOC Executive Board recommended to the organization’s session that recognition of the IBA be withdrawn because the association had not fulfilled the conditions necessary for its reinstatement proposed by the IOC in December 2021. in mid-June, the IBA appealed to the CAS against this decision and asked the court to suspend the decision pending a final verdict from the court, the CAS denied this request.
An extraordinary session of the IOC will be held on June 22.
