CAS denies IBA’s request to suspend IOC’s recommendation to withdraw IBA recognition, IOC’s decision to stand

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) request to suspend the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) recommendation to withdraw IBA recognition, according to the Proceedings News Service. judicial.

In June, the IOC Executive Board recommended to the organization’s session that recognition of the IBA be withdrawn because the association had not fulfilled the conditions necessary for its reinstatement proposed by the IOC in December 2021. The IOC Executive Board also recommended to the session “in the interests of athletes and sport” that boxing be maintained on the program of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in line with previous decisions. To discuss this issue and make a decision, the Executive Board and the IOC President have convened an extraordinary session, which will be held on June 22.

In mid-June, the IBA appealed to the CAS against this decision and asked the court to suspend the IOC’s recommendations pending a final verdict from the court.

— In the context of the appeal lodged by the IBA against the decision of the IOC Executive Board, the Head of the CAS Appeals Arbitration Division rejected the IBA’s urgent request to stay the execution of the the contested decision. Thus, the disputed decision remains in force and the extraordinary session of the IOC remains unchanged, specifies the decision of the CAS.

IBA chief Umar Kremlev said earlier that the IOC was about to make a historic mistake in recommending that the IBA be stripped of its recognition status.
