Brazilian fighter trainer Charles Oliveira points out that he believes in his district’s knockout victory over the current promotion champion Islam Makhachev .
Earlier in Vancouver, Oliveira defeated American Beneil Dariush by technical knockout in the first round. For the Brazilian, the victory was the first since losing for the vacant UFC lightweight belt in a fight against Makhachev in October last year. Before the fight with Dariush, Oliveira said if he wins he should be eligible for a second fight with Islam.
I believe in a knockout in a rematch. Funny how people say Charles has the most submission wins. But the fight starts from the grandstand, and we’ve got plenty of strikes planned – and it continues when we go to the ground. Chandler was also beaten by Charles by knockout after going to the ground. Charles is very strong, he attacks so well. That’s why I really believe in knockouts, — quotes the words of Diego Lima MMAFighting.
Makhachev, 31, has 24 wins and one loss. After a first victory over Oliveira, Islam defended the lightweight belt – in February of this year in Australia he defeated Australian featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski by unanimous decision.
