President of the St. Petersburg Judo Federation Mikhail Rakhlin, after the official opening of the youth tournament “Anatoly Rakhlin Cup”, was happy to see legendary athletes in the hall and told how the DPR guys won medals.
– When we started the tournament, we held it in one day, then we grew – in two days, now, you see, – already in three days, and I always want more. We have more than a thousand participants here, seven countries, plus athletes from the DPR and Abkhazia, that is, even at such a time we can bring people together. There are guys from Donetsk here, some of them have been in St. Petersburg for four months already, they train in our club. Both boys and girls won medals yesterday. To be honest, I don’t remember the category, but I saw that there were no silver, bronze, gold medals this year. I think it’s a great achievement for people who train casually, when there’s an opportunity. I’m sure they are fighting here not because of some technical qualities, but most likely because of their character and willpower.
The fact that the tournament is held within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is the recognition of judo in our city, it is a tribute to the father and, of course, it leaves an imprint, because more guests means responsibility. Here today were our Olympic champions, our famous athletes Tagir Khaibulaev, Mansur Isaev, Nifontov Ivan, Tamerlan Tmenov and, of course, San Sanych Karelin, our legendary man, we can already say a politician. I am very happy that such people are paying attention to this tournament,” Rakhlin said.
The XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum takes place from June 15 to 18. Gazprom-Media Holding is the general media partner of SPIEF-2022.
