International Olympic Committee (IOC) chief executive Christophe De Koepper has said boxing will be in the spotlight at the 2028 Olympics.
He “guaranteed” that in 2028 boxers could compete in the Olympics.
– The IOC has constantly and patiently tried to help the International Boxing Federation. But over the years, there has been a consistent lack of proper communication. So we have passed the point of no return. However, I guarantee you that boxing will return to the program of the Olympic Games in 2028,” De Koepper said during the 140th session of the IOC.
On June 22, the IOC Session voted to strip the International Boxing Association (IBA) of recognition status. Thus, the IBA will not be able to organize the qualifying boxing tournament for the 2024 Olympics.
