At the same time, the delegates of the session recommended leaving boxing at the 2024 Olympics
International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided at a remote session to formally withdraw the recognition International Boxing Association (IBA).
69 out of 70 IOC members voted for the relevant document, only one delegate abstained. At the same time, the session recommended keeping boxing in the list of sports at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The delegates were guided by the decision of the IOC Executive Board of 7 June. The Board concluded that the IBA did not meet all the requirements that were put before the organization.
Russian Umar Kremlev remains the president of the IBA. His main opponent, the Dutchman Boris van der Voorst, was not allowed to vote.
Recall that the IBA allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions using national symbols. Due to the actions of the Association, Ukraine, Great Britain, the USA, Poland and a number of other countries refused to participate in the women’s and men’s world championships.
A new federation World Boxing has appeared in international amateur boxing. The body is headed by a Provisional Council of representatives from the federations of Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden and the United States.
