International Boxing Association (IBA) released declaration following the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) revoke the recognition of the organization.
The IOC during the session of June 22 deprived the association under the direction of the Russian Umar Kremlev of its official recognition. This decision was supported by the majority of voters. Despite this, the committee advocated keeping boxing on the program for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
“Today the IOC has made an incredible mistake in withdrawing recognition from the IBA, revealing its true politicized nature. We cannot hide the fact that today’s decision is disastrous for world boxing and contradicts blatantly the IOC’s claims that it is in the best interests of boxing and the athletes.
Any unfavorable decision taken against the IBA will have a negative impact on the Olympic Movement and will challenge the values of democracy, fairness and transparency that the Olympic Movement has stood for for centuries.
Despite the difficulties, the IBA remains committed to the development of boxing, maintaining its independence and organizing official tournaments and world boxing championships at the highest level. We have a legal right to this and we are ready to defend it. Finally, we emphasize that we are fully open to dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of sport, athletes, coaches and national federations, the IBA said in a statement.
The IBA also published a list of “questions addressed to IOC chief Thomas Bach and other members of the committee”, demanding that a response be published within 10 days. In particular, he asks why the IOC all this time avoided communicating with the IBA and kept silent about the organization’s achievements, and the boxers did not receive appropriate financial payments for their participation in the Olympics. , while tournaments were very profitable.
– The actions of the IOC seem to be dictated by political decisions without taking into account the opinion of the boxing community and, more importantly, without taking into account the interests of athletes and coaches. This is contrary to the fundamental principles of the Olympic Movement, as reflected in the Olympic Charter, the IBA statement concludes.
