Coach Taov said that in some weight categories Russian judokas do not have enough points to participate in the Olympics.

Team Head Coach Russia in judo, Hasanbi Taov told that in some weight categories Russian judokas do not have enough ranking points to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

In late April, the International Judo Federation (IJF) allowed Russian athletes to compete under the organization’s auspices in a neutral status. At the last Grand Slam stage in Mongolia, Russian judokas won ten medals: two gold, two silver and six bronze.

– Did the first team score points for their participation in the Olympic Games?

“There’s still time. In some weight classes there’s still not enough. But I’m sure these guys will score points if they keep letting us in.

“Meaning we have both promising youngsters and two teams of guys who are ready to compete in the Olympics?”

– Yes. Every month the guys win. You can see they are growing. We really miss the tournaments.

– Mikhail Igolnikov finally won gold.

– Igolnikov has proven that he is one of the leaders of our team. He is double European champion. In some tournaments, it almost failed to win. At the Olympics, I was also lacking a little, no doubt, I was not in my best shape. I’m sure that in Paris our team can show a good result. She is very strong now,” Taov told .

The quotas for the 2024 Games will be distributed according to the world ranking based on the results of the Olympic qualification period, which started in June 2022 and will end in June 2024.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
