Team Head Coach Russia in judo, Hasanbi Taov told that the small number of tournaments does not allow watching young athletes, the focus is on the main team in order to get an Olympic rating.
The Russian team at the Grand Slam stage in Mongolia won ten medals: two gold, two silver and six bronze. The victories were won by Mikhail Igolnikov (up to 90 kg) and Inal Tasoev (over 100 kg). The Russians played the tournament in a neutral status.
– The team’s latest results showed that they are in the top 3 in the world rankings.
“We were allowed to compete. Our team was updated, young guys appeared, which we wanted to see. We can see that after the World Cup, our team is doing well in tournaments.
– Medals are taken even by the second numbers. It turns out that we have two very strong teams?
– We don’t have only two teams. A very strong youth has grown up. We don’t have enough tournaments to watch them all and find out what shape they are in. Now we focus on the main team, the first, second, third numbers in order to get an Olympic rating. We have no option to watch issues four or five,” Taov told .
The next stage of the Grand Slam will take place at the end of September in Baku.
