On Tuesday in the city of Kamensk-Uralsky, the president of the International Boxing Association Umar Kremlev, the governor of the Sverdlovsk region Evgeny Kuyvashev and the mayor Alexei Gerasimov inaugurated the Boxing Progress Center.
In 2018, Kuyvashev and Kremlev (then Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation) signed an agreement to establish five boxing centers in the region. The Kamensky Center became the starting point for this project, and the foundation stone for the new building was laid in 2019. Titled athletes attended the opening ceremony: Alexander Povetkin, Denis Lebedev, Yegor Mekhontsev, Alexander Besputin, Pyotr Yan, Magomed Kurbanov and Shavkat Rakhimov. Aleksey Gerasimov, mayor of the city, and Alexander Kukarin, director of the Center, gave a tour to all the guests.
The four-story building is equipped with the latest technology and has an unusual round shape. It can accommodate up to 500 people per day. The heart of Vityaz is the arena on the third floor. Modern lighting and multimedia equipment make it possible to organize tournaments of all levels. The new sports facility will not only cultivate boxing, but also a number of other martial arts.
Kremlev noted that Kamensk-Uralsky is a boxing city and he needs the Boxing Progress Center. “Today is not just a boxing holiday, but a sports holiday. Sport develops character, shapes a person as a person,” he stressed.
– The boxing progress center in Kamensk-Uralsky is very powerful. I believe this is one of the best sports centers in Russia. The sports complex is large, very functional, everyone who participated in the construction did everything right – like a boxer. I am happy that the younger generation has the opportunity to train in such good conditions,” said Alexander Besputin, European champion, former WBA world champion and native of Kamensk-Uralsky.
“It is in these small towns that boxing must be developed”, explains Olympic champion and world champion Alexander Povetkin. — It is in such cities that true champions are born. The new Vityaz Boxing Progress Center turned out to be excellent, with a large spacious hall. Here it is already possible to organize city and regional championships. Today, young people have everything for boxing. The main desire.
“It’s very cool that such sports facilities are opening in small towns,” said boxing master and former UFC champion Pyotr Yan. “It’s a big motivation for the younger generation.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the championship fights of the Urals Federal District began at the Boxing Progress Center. The winners in August will represent the Federal District at the Russian Championship in Khabarovsk.
