Former Kazakh boxer world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin could face American Edgar Berlanga, promoter Eddie Hearn has said.
Berlanga beat Irishman Jason Quigley by unanimous decision on June 24. According to Hearn, in the next fight, Berlanga should meet Golovkin, and not another candidate – the undefeated Mexican Jaime Munguia.
Yes, Golovkin is a much bigger name (for Berlanga). The point is whether he will fight again. Golovkin hits harder [чем Хайме Мунгия]. I think he is the best fighter. He’s just older. I think he’s not the best version of Golovkin anymore, but he’s still a great fighter,” boxingnews24.com quotes Hearn.
According to the media, Golovkin’s fees for a possible fight with Berlanga could amount to 15 million dollars.
During his career, 41-year-old Golovkin had 42 wins with two losses, one fight ended in a draw. Due to Berlanga, 26, undefeated, 21 wins (16 by KO).
