President of Russia Vladimir Poutine sent a telegram of welcome to the participants and guests of the club’s international judo tournament “Challenge of Yawara”, which is being held for the second time within the sports program of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
— It is gratifying that the holding of these prestigious and spectacular competitions has become a good tradition, a milestone event in the life of our northern capital and of the whole country. They gather on their site the strongest teams of Russia and foreign countries, in many ways reflect the state of modern judo and the development trends of this bright and dynamic struggle.
And of course, your tournament seriously contributes to the popularization and promotion of martial arts, their philosophy and their values. In this regard, I want to thank the team of the Yavara-Neva club – talented wrestlers, coaches, mentors – for the excellent organization of the competition and for the consistently high sports results. Today, Yavara-Neva is rightly considered one of the most successful, multiple and current European champion teams, says a telegram published on the Kremlin website.
Last year, SPIEF hosted the debut of the Yawara Challenge tournament. This time, Yavara-Neva and Lokomotiv met foreign rivals at the tournament.
