Athletistic/MMA. Former UFC champion Daniel Cormier has given his thoughts on ESPN’s UFC Fighter of the Year nominations.
Among the contenders for this honorary title are the American John Jones, the Russian Islam Makhachev, the Brazilian Amanda Nunez and the Briton Leon Edwards.
“I’m not sure Jon Jones can be considered the primary contender for this award after just one fight with Cyril Gan. It wasn’t even a knockout of Gan, and that’s just one fight. Just to look at the accomplishments of others. Remember how Makhachev beat Oliveira to win the championship belt and then defeated Volkanovskiy. Jones needs another impressive win to seriously claim this award,” Cormier commented on ESPN.
Jon Jones had 28 mixed martial arts fights and had 27 wins. Islam Makhachev has 24 wins in 25 fights.
