The International Boxing Association (IBA) will continue to support its athletes, despite the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to strip the organization of recognition status, the IBA chief says in an open letter. Oumar Kremleva the text of which is provided by the press service of the association.
The IOC announced on June 22, following a vote, the deprivation of recognition of the International Boxing Association (IBA). In 2019, the IOC temporarily withdrew recognition status from the IBA for economic reasons and due to a management crisis in the organization, and made demands for reforms. In 2023, the IBA allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions with national symbols, contrary to IOC recommendations.
– We would like to stress that there should not be panic among the national federations now. The situation has remained unchanged for several years and our position as a world class organization developing boxing from below has never changed. We continue to support our athletes so they can reach their full potential. In addition, we are closely monitoring those who participate in the European Games, which are currently taking place in Poland.
In the meantime, the IBA continues to support all National Federations and our vision of high level competition will continue to drive the growth of our boxers. In addition, we remain at the forefront in the field of training organization. We are truly committed to our development programs for training coaches, referees, judges, technical officials and medical personnel,” the letter reads.
Kremlev also said that the IBA continues to organize tournaments, the next of which will start in Thailand on July 15.
