The British team may also not accept the plan of the Saudi organizers of the fight
The fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between the holder of the WBA / WBO / IBF / IBO titles Oleksandr Usyk and WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury planned to be held in the first quarter of 2024. Tentatively, the event is being prepared in January, but the British team may not follow such a plan, journalist Gareth Davis said.
“The organizers moved the event because Fury is now going to fight in October. They clearly want Fury involved.”
“I heard it from George Warren a few weeks ago that Fury doesn’t necessarily agree with the Saudi narrative. That they are going to create their roadmap for Tyson. It doesn’t have to necessarily follow the Saudi plan.”
“Frank Warren told me right now that the Saudis are moving this big, undisputed fight to 2024, the first quarter of 2024. So Oleksandr Usyk is probably going to fight another opponent right away. It could be the winner of Joyce and Zhang or Filip Hrgovic after he beats Daniel Dubois.”
Earlier it was reported that the battle between Usyk and Fury will not take place in December, since the Briton will not have time to prepare for this period. Also, insider Simon Jordan expressed doubt that the event in Saudi Arabia will be able to bring together the four best fighters in one evening.
Recall that Skill Challenge Entertainment is negotiating a fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, and is also planning a fight between two ex-world champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
In April, Fury planned to have a unification fight with Usyk, but the Ukrainian pulled out of negotiations due to contract disagreements. The name of Tyson’s new opponent and the date of the Briton’s return to the ring are still unknown.
Usyk will face Daniel Dubois next. The duel should take place on August 26 in Wroclaw, Poland. Usyk will receive 75% of the total prize fund – $6 million. Dubois can count on 25% – 2 million.
