The Chinese champion is confident in his abilities
Interim WBO Heavyweight Champion Zhang Zhilei shared his opinion about the rematch with Joe Joyce. The Chinese boxer said that if he wins over the British he will challenge Tyson Fury.
“In the last fight, I made history. The best legacy for a story is to create a new story. Creating a new history of China in the field of boxing is my mission and my original intention. People always think that Chinese boxing cannot produce heavyweight boxers, that Chinese boxing cannot compete with European and American boxing. I don’t agree with this. Chinese boxing will definitely take center stage in the international arena,” Zhilei said.
“At the moment we don’t have a long term plan, we are still focused on the fight with Joyce. After him, my next goal will be to fight Tyson Fury.”
The rematch between Zhilei and Joyce will take place on September 23 at Wembley Arena in London. The first fight between Zhang and Joe took place in April. The Briton lost by technical knockout and lost the interim WBO title.
In April, Fury planned to have a unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk, but the Ukrainian pulled out of negotiations due to contract disagreements. The name of Tyson’s new opponent and the date of the Briton’s return to the ring are still unknown.
