Bivol congratulated Beterbiev on his victory over Smith and announced his desire to organize a unification fight

WBA Russian Light Heavyweight Champion (Super) Dmitry Bivol in a conversation with congratulated a compatriot Artur Beterbiev with a win over American Joe Smith Jr. and announced his desire for a unification fight.

Sunday night at a tournament in the United States, Beterbiev defeated Smith Jr. in the second round by technical knockout in a unification bout and became the WBO, WBC, IBF world champion. After Beterbiev again announced his desire to fight for the title of absolute world champion. Now all light heavyweight titles belong to Russian boxers.

“Nothing surprising happened. Someone had to come in. From the first minutes it was clear that Smith was significantly slower than Beterbiev – that played a huge role. Smith wanted to go to the exchange, but he just didn’t have time to land his blows. Beterbiev did it much faster and on a shorter trajectory. And we saw the result – we found a scythe on a stone. Smith has long arms, he’s big, he could work from a distance, but he can’t do anything but move forward using his wide shots, pushing and punching. And that’s what Arthur needed. I want to congratulate Artur on his victory, Bivol told .

– You fought Smith for 12 rounds, and that was maybe your toughest fight, and Arthur dealt him in two rounds.

– It happens. Sometimes someone loses to each other. This triangle in boxing does not matter, everything is decided by a specific fight.

I’ve always said unification is the most important thing I want. What is the reality of meeting Arthur? I don’t think that’s the next fight. And I have obligations (Saul Alvarez is entitled to a rematch), and Bob Arum says he better have a fight between Beterbiev and Yarde. Let’s see what happens next. But I have a certain desire to have a unification fight.
