Russian welterweight Rinat Fakhretdinov spoke in an interview with about the prospects for negotiations with the UFC after three won fights.
The Russian, on a 20-fight MMA winning streak, is looking to sign a new contract with the UFC after winning three title fights by choking out Kevin Lee in 55 seconds in his last fight. In 2017, Lee was a contender for the interim lightweight championship.
– After three wins, fighters sometimes re-sign the contract. Have new conditions been offered to you?
— Not yet, I have a basic contract. They said there will be a new and improved one when they offer the next fight. I think so. If the organization is interested in me, it’s stupid to give a fourth fight without a new contract. I can win, make it 4-0 – and, it seems to me, any organization will provide good conditions. Nobody wants to leave the UFC, but the fact that 4-0 – you are a brilliant fighter or not, but that already means something. I think they should come up with an improved contract.
– Among people who are new to the UFC, you are definitely noticed by Dana White: he gave you a contract and probably knows you. Who do you think he rooted for in this fight? On the one hand, Lee could make a brilliant return to the league and have more of a name in the United States. On the other hand, you are fresh and with a cool streak.
– I think it’s not him who decides, but Sean Shelby. And Shelby, I think, was thinking, ‘I don’t like them both, they were both signed by Dana, not me.’ From what I understand, they don’t like it. Who to put Kevin with? Rinat is on you – go to work with a blanket. You can make anything out of a winner. Kevin wins – well, won against the prospect. Rinat will win – oh, nifiga, 3-0, let’s keep working with him. I think it was like that.
Who would you root for if you were Dana White?
– Probably for Rinat, because her fees are five times lower. Fakhretdinov told .
