American fighter Josiah Harrell has addressed fans after being diagnosed with a brain condition ahead of his UFC debut.
Harrel was scheduled to fight his first bout with the promotion late last week, but the athlete was diagnosed with moyamoya syndrome, a rare condition that causes blockages in the arteries at the base of the brain.
“We did everything in our power. An MRI showed that I have a treatable brain disease, I will recover as soon as possible. I apologize to everyone I know. You wanted to see my head crushed, or you wanted to see me with my hand up. I don’t have much information at the moment, but I know I’ll be a lab rat for a while, which is appropriate.
I will keep you all updated on the process, thank you for everything,” the fighter wrote on social media.
Harrell, 24, has seven wins in seven fights during his career.
