Arthur may change weight category in the future
WBC, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion Arthur Beterbiev stated that in the future he may change the weight category. He is motivated Oleksandr Usykwho moved up to heavyweight and became world champion in the new division.
“Will I stay at light heavyweight if I beat Dmitry Bivol and become the undisputed world champion? This is an interesting question. I will need to think about him after the fight. First I would move up to first heavyweight, and then to heavyweight. I’m interested in winning another title. I hope my promoter will arrange this for me,” Beterbiev said.
“Does Usyk become heavyweight champion motivate me? Yes, he did a good job, but we’ll see.”
Today, Beterbiev defeated Joe Smith via TKO in the second round to unify the WBC, IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles.
Usyk made his heavyweight debut in 2019. Last September Alexander defeated Anthony Joshua to become the new WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight champion. The revenge of the Ukrainian and the British will take place on August 20 in Saudi Jeddah.
