Trainer of current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev Javier Mendez reacted to the Brazilian’s statement Charles Oliveira that he does not have time to prepare for the fight with Makhachev in October, as previously assumed.
Oliveira would like to postpone the scheduled fight to November or December.
In June, Oliveira defeated American Beneil Dariush. After the victory, the Brazilian challenged Makhachev for a rematch. UFC official Dana White says the league is ready to stage that fight. Makhachev himself noted that he could hold his next fight in October at a tournament in Abu Dhabi.
– Oliveira says he wants to fight in November or December. It’s not up to him to decide when he fights for the title. It’s in the UFC.
I expect Islam to have his next fight on October 21 because they need him in Abu Dhabi. Who is the rival? I don’t know. And it could still be Oliveira. He might say: “It’s okay, I’ll fight Makhachev in Abu Dhabi,” MiddleEasy said, quoting Mendez.
The first duel between Makhachev and Oliveira took place in October 2022 and ended in an early victory for Islam.
