WBC clears Fury to fight Ngannou

The fight is scheduled for October 28

The World Boxing Council (WBC) granted a special permit to the world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) to fight the former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou (17-3, 12 KOs).

“Tyson Fury received special permission from the WBC to fight Francis Ngannou, since the official contender [на поединок с Фьюри] No. He tried to organize fights against Ruiz, Joshua and Usyk, but agreements were not reached, ”said WBC President Mauricio Suleiman.

Fury and Ngannou will fight on October 28 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The rules of the fight and the number of rounds are still unknown, as well as whether the British champion title will be at stake in the fight between Fury and Ngannou.

Fury has not been in the ring since December 2022, when he defended his WBC title against Derek Chisora. In April, Tyson planned to have a unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk, but the Ukrainian pulled out of negotiations due to contract disagreements.

According to Usyk’s promoter Oleksandr Krasyuk, the fight between the Ukrainian and Fury could take place on January 27, 2024. The bout is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou had his last fight in the UFC in January last year, after which he left the promotion. In May, he signed with the Professional Fighters League.
