russian judoka Inal Tasoev recounted how he found out he had been awarded the World Championship gold medal and also admitted that he did not feel like a true champion.
In June, the International Judo Federation (IJF) reviewed the results of the last fight of the world championship held in May in Doha in the weight category over 100 kg, in which Tasoev lost to the French Teddy Riner, three-time Olympic champion. In extra time, the Russian laid the opponent on his back, but the attack was unmarked. The IJF conceded the error, stating that “points for Tasoev’s counterattack could have been awarded”, and ended up awarding gold to Tasoev and Riner in that fight.
Did you know why you were invited to the general meeting?
No, I didn’t really know. I thought he had done something. I’m not spoiled, but maybe I did something somewhere. I still followed them and said, “I didn’t do anything. They replied: “Yes, let’s go, now we will understand.” We went there, I was pleasantly surprised when it was announced.
I have to win another world championship to be able to prove to myself that I am a real world champion. I want to do this only for me and for no one else, because I can’t feel like a real world champion. You always have to win in such a way that you don’t give anyone a reason,” Tasoev said on Special Reporting on .
