Bivol’s coach sees no interest in the fight between Russian and Ukrainian Gvozdik

WBA Champion Coach Dmitry Bivol Gennady Mashyanov told that the Russian boxer expressed his desire to meet David Benavidez, but the American team immediately disappeared. The specialist also expressed the opinion that the fight between Bivol and Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk is absolutely uninteresting and there is no sports competition.

The undefeated Bivol has 21 victories in the professional ring. The Russian has been recognized as the best boxer of 2022 by numerous publications and organizations, including the WBA. Bivol defended the belt in November 2022, beating Mexican Gilberto Ramirez. Since then, the Russian has not fought.

– Tell us about your emotions when you saw the official announcement of the fight between undisputed super middleweight champion Saul Alvarez and undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo?

– A purely commercial option that is suitable for all parties. Well, Canelo is walking away from the rematch, the fight with Benavidez. Although Benavidez is very big for 76 kg, he weighs 90 kg in real life. By the way, Benavidez has made statements about his desire to fight Dima. We are ready!

Ramirez made the same statements back then. But the ring revealed that Gilberto Ramirez was speaking right.

– What is the reality of Bivol’s meeting with Benavidez?

“Now it’s in the reasoning category. Benavidez was saying something… Well, our answer is, ‘If a person wants something, then let’s go, we’re ready. And now they’re silent, and this question does not arise.

– Another former WBC light heavyweight champion, Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk, who lost to Artur Beterbiev in 2019, has expressed his desire to either get a rematch or meet Bivol.

– Let’s talk in this vein – in a fight who can he make money with? He won’t make decent money with anyone, but with Dima he can. This is how he makes these statements. Here the question is – which of the organizers needs such a fight? Firstly, Gvozdyk is not so interesting, no one will pay for such a confrontation …

– Well, the fight between Gvozdyk and Bivol is a certain risk for the organizers in the current situation.

– For the organizers – of course, it’s a big risk, since you won’t earn any money for this fight. And I don’t see any risks in terms of sporting results in this confrontation for us. Let’s be direct – where is Gvozdyk and where is Bivol, – Mashyanov told “”.

Mashyanov is also training Russian heavyweight Sergey Kuzmin, who will face Mexican German Garcia Montes on July 20 in St. Petersburg. This fight will be broadcast live on .
