Istanbul hosted an extraordinary congress of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC), attended in person by representatives from 34 European countries.
– The most important item on the agenda was the issue of the EUBC approach to athlete selection. The European Boxing Confederation calls on all European national federations to admit all athletes under equal conditions and rights, without political aspects. There should be no discrimination, no collective punishment in sport. Sport should be autonomous and neutral from politics,” Tatyana Kiriyenko, secretary general of the Russian Boxing Federation, wrote on her Telegram channel.

The head of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev delivered a welcoming speech at the congress. In October 2022, the organization allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in international competitions under national flags.
