The world champion was released on bail, in August he must appear in court
Undisputed World Lightweight Champion Devin Haney was arrested Thursday morning in Los Angeles. He is charged with possession of a concealed firearm.
The police stopped the boxer’s car because of a dangerous maneuver during which the driver did not turn on the turn signal. Haney was in the passenger seat while his security guard was driving. After inspecting the car, the police found a semi-automatic pistol under the driver’s seat.
Neither Devin nor his bodyguard admitted to owning the weapon. Haney, as the owner of the car, was arrested. The boxer was later released on $35,000 bail. Devin is due to appear in court in August in this case.
Earlier, the Nevada State Athletic Commission fined Haney $25,000. The American pushed the Ukrainian boxer Vasily Lomachenko during a duel of views.
Lomachenko lost in a fight against Haney for the title of undisputed world lightweight champion. After the fight, the American announced that he would donate part of his fee to Ukraine.
