And, of course, a year and a half of a simple Ukrainian – at this age, this is a lot.
But the main thing, as it seems, is the interest of promoters. Viktor Postol has not been considered as a contender for the championship title for a long time: both due to his age, and due to a small fan base and, as a result, a lack of financial prospects. Rodriguez, on the contrary, is led competently and carefully, choosing the right opponents at the right time. The same Postol five or six years ago would have dealt with Rodriguez without any problems, with whom he had previously sparred repeatedly, training with Freddie Roach.
“I know him very well. Now we have to meet not in sparring, but in a real fight. So we will see which of us is stronger, ”said the Ukrainian before the fight.
Postol comes to the fight on a series of two defeats, losing to Carlos Ramirez and Harry Russell. Rodriguez has three wins in a row, two of which are early. The striking power of the Dominican, despite the small number of serious rivals, is really impressive – 12 knockouts in 14 winning fights.
Elvis counts on a knockout today. “A spectacular victory over Postol will be the statement that will give me a chance at a title shot. I have a duty to myself, my family and my country to win on July 15th. This is the most important fight in my career,” said the Dominican.
Another thing is that it will not be easy to knock out Postol: Victor lost ahead of schedule in only one of his four lost fights, however, in the last one with Russell. And before that, neither Crawford, nor Taylor, nor Ramirez managed to delay the Ukrainian.
Another thing is that the pressure, power and speed of a much younger Rodriguez can play a role. Postol is already 39 – for a welterweight, this is generally prohibitively veteran age. Due to experience, ability to keep himself in shape and moral and strong-willed qualities, Postol is not just in the ranks, but among the top fighters of the division. Yes, he hopes for another title fight, in all honesty, Victor is no longer worth it. But we believe that he is capable of presenting at least one sensation.
