2019 European Games silver medalist and 2020 Olympic Games quarter-finalist Gabil Mammadov said Team Kama’s success at the Victory Cup is a common merit, not his personal achievement.
On Saturday in Orenburg, Mamedov defeated Ilya Popov of Leningrad by unanimous decision in a fight in the weight category up to 65 kg and won Kama in the Victory Cup Superfinal in the decisive fight.
“It’s a team victory. Yes, I won the fifth fight, but this is our common triumph. We went through three stages, we all fought together. We won not only because of me , this is the merit of our whole team. With Popov, I fought far from the first fight, and I always had victories. It changes with each fight. In this particular fight, it was difficult for me to rebuild in the first half – he moved, which he hadn’t before, in the end I figured out his tactics and turned the fight around.
I spoke at home and appreciated the support and, to some extent, the pressure from the stands. I wanted to excite people. Their support is very important to me, – the correspondent reports Mammadov’s words.
The Victory Cup was broadcast in full on and Match! Fighter”.
