Boxing competitions remain on the program of the Paris Olympics and will be organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), IOC chief Thomas Bach said.
The IOC announced on June 22, following a vote, the deprivation of recognition of the International Boxing Association (IBA). In 2019, the IOC temporarily withdrew recognition status from the IBA for economic reasons and due to a management crisis in the organization, and made demands for reforms. In 2023, the IBA allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions with national symbols, contrary to IOC recommendations. The Tokyo Olympics boxing tournament was organized by the IOC.
— The decision remains in force. There will be boxing at the Paris Olympics, the tournament will be organized by the IOC, as well as qualifying competitions,” Bach told reporters.
The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
