Taktarov – on his meeting with White: “I was asked to talk about signing Fedor Emelianenko to the UFC”

UFC Tournament Winner Oleg Taktarov recalls in an interview with how in the second half of the 2000s he spoke with the head of the UFC Dana White about the possible signing of Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko by the promotion.

Taktarov is considered the first Russian UFC champion. On July 14, 1995, the Russian won three fights in the UFC 6 tournament.

– You said that you hardly communicate with [главой UFC] Dana White after leaving the UFC.

– No, we talked, then there was Dana White and one of the Fertitta brothers. We spoke in 2006-2009. I was then asked to talk about signing Fedor. I don’t know why I wasted this opportunity to talk to them. As a result, Fedor did not go under them and almost immediately lost. White then even wrote something about it on social media. And then I lost interest in myself at the same time.

“And then you didn’t meet again?”

– No. I speak often with the founders of the UFC, with Bob Meyrowitz and Art Davey,” Taktarov told .

Earlier, Jeff Monson told that he will fight Taktarov on August 4th. Taktarov, in a conversation with , noted that the contract for this fight has not yet been signed.
