The sports community considered Devin’s victory over the Ukrainian an “unfair decision of the judges”
Former World Lightweight Champion George Kambosos commented on the victory of the absolute world champion in lightweight Devina Haney over Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko.
“It was just a great fight. Solution [судей] is their decision. Immediately after the fight, we should not try to ruin the box and create a stigma that a close fight is necessarily a robbery. It was a close fight that could go either way.”
“In the end, the champion kept his belts, and Lomachenko failed to achieve his goal, which he had long sought. Yes, you should feel sorry for him. But, again, in such a close fight, you need to give all your best, and when he says that he did not try to win the last round … You know, I also have a lot of respect for Vasily Lomachenko, but this is a little disappointing.
“I repeat, it was a great fight, but we jumped to the wrong conclusions by disrespecting the sport by talking about a robbery. Instead, we should have said, “You know what? Both fighters did what they could. An excellent duel, that is, that is. We’re moving on.”
Lomachenko lost in a fight against Haney for the title of undisputed world lightweight champion. According to the results of 12 rounds, the judges gave the victory to the American champion: 116:112, 115:113, 115:113.
The sports community spoke about the unfair decision of the panel of judges. At the same time, WBC President Mauricio Suleiman supported the decision of the judges, pointing out that the fight was very close on points.
Lomachenko fought his 20th fight in the professional ring and suffered his third defeat in his career. Undefeated Haney won his 30th fight and defended the undisputed lightweight title of the world champion.
