Ngannou: Only a madman would rely on knockout power against Fury

Francis intends to show his boxing skills in a duel

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou (17-3, 12 KOs) said he was preparing to show all his boxing skills in a fight against the WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs). The Cameroonian does not intend to rely solely on the chance of a one-punch knockout.

“You know, I have some knockout power. But you have to be crazy to go into a fight with someone like Tyson Fury just hoping for a knockout. I’m going there to box, I’m going to go into this fight as a boxer, and I’m impressed by how many people don’t think I’m a boxer.”

“They doubt me and, as usual, I will prove them wrong. I go there as a fighter. Not because I have a strong punch, I go to fight even if the fight comes to a decision of the judges.

“I will still count on winning, even by decision of the judges. I want to be ready and win this fight, it will strengthen my position as a boxer. I’m not just an MMA fighter who transitions to another sport. Strength isn’t the only thing I have.”

The fight between Fury and Ngannou will take place on October 28 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The WBC granted Tyson a special permit to fight the former UFC champion.

Earlier, Ngannou said that a rematch clause was included in the contract for the fight. The option is activated if the “Gypsy King” is defeated in the first match.

Fury has not been in the ring since December 2022, when he defended his WBC title against Derek Chisora. In April, Tyson planned to have a unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk, but the Ukrainian pulled out of negotiations due to contract disagreements.

Ngannou had his last fight in the UFC in January last year, after which he left the promotion. In May, he signed with the Professional Fighters League.
